
The territory of Heihe lies on one of the only existing three
black earth belts------Northeast China black earth belt. The location
stays far away from industrial cities, full of fresh air, free of
pollution and kept in a perfect ecological environment, presenting
itself as a rare remote fairyland. The fertile land here has been
cultivated for only a hundred years or so, thus free from any residue
of pesticides and chemical fertilizers. The green hills, clear waters,
blue sky, black earth and white snow present unique natural ecology
for developing green and organic food crops and cultivating produces
which grow in the optimum cultivation belt.
In the vast and dense woods in the territory of Heihe there grow
some 350 species of medicinal herbs such as membranous milk vetch,
Chinese magnoliavine, ginseng, dangshen, and many others with a
total annual gain of 150 kilos. More than 100 sorts of wild vegetables
such as bracken and fern grow in the hills with an annual gain of
30 thousand tons. More than 50 sorts of wild fruit seeds such as
pine seeds, hill walnuts, and hazelnuts are available with an annual
output of 10 thousand tons. More than 60 sorts of wild edible funguses
such as auricularia, hedgehog hydnum and mushroom grow and produce
an annual gain of 7 thousand tons. More than 20 sorts of fruits
for making wine such as hill grapes, a kind of persimmon, yageda
fruit, with an annual gain of 3 thousand tons. More than 50 sorts
of honey-source plants scattered over an area of 2 million mu, enough
for keeping 260 thousand beehives. The nature of the territory offers
also birch sap, a "natural beer" and "forest juice"
named by Europeans. The territory is a habitat of 51 species of
wild animals such as sables, black bears, elks, and wild boars and
a habitat of 206 species of wild birds such as white storks, gold
vultures, swans and pheasants. Plenty of mountainous produces are
a stable raw material source for green food processing industry.
The territory contains 960 thousand mu of natural waters, where
there grow dog salmons, sturgeons, carps, and eight delicacy fishes
(the local names are Auhua, bream, anchovy, Yaluo, Zheluo, Faluo,
Tongluo and Huluo), and where there is a great potential to cultivate
fishes, and cold water fishes in particular.
" Adhering to Greens and Going on a featured way" has
become the breakthrough point for Heihe to develop quality and efficacy
agriculture. At the present time 10 sorts of grade A foodstuffs
available such as mineral water, edible fungus-auricularia, wheat,
soybeans, peas, mineral water grains and potatoes. In the year of
2002, 17 grade A green foodstuffs and 2 grade AA green foodstuffs
such as rice, beef, milk powder, birch juice, bean milk products,
mineral water fish, sliced green kidney beans, maple tea, tussah
products and mountainous wild vegetables will be available on markets.
At present, City Heihe is in full swing to set up the production
bases of green food raw materials, to develop leading enterprises
processing mountainous products, and to open markets for green foods
with the aim to make Heihe into a national "Green Food Land".
